Book Drunkard

“I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.” L.M. Montgomery

24 Hour Read-a-thon: Hour 1

Oh the joy of hour 1.  It’s the time of day when you’re so full of hope and excitement that the next 24 hours will be full of books and reading and snacks.  Never once have I read a full 24 hours and I’m under no illusion that THIS will be the time.  I have plans to read for about 8 hours today–the rest of my day off will be spent with my husband, daughter (I’m one daughter short because my eldest up and moved away for a job!), and with some other family this evening for my dad’s birthday.  But, I intend on having fun and enjoying every moment of reading time I have.

I’m excited to share the love of reading with other read-a-thon’ers all over the world.  Have fun!

Read-a-thon hour 14 – MINI CHALLENGE AND UPDATE

Update first.  I finished one book and have made a good dent on my second.  I also admit to having a nap – I’m getting older and this is my first read-a-thon without caffeinated coffee!  Feel sorry for me…

Mini challenge time!  Stacy’s Books is hosting a Beloved Books challenge.  These are some of my two daughter’s fave books when they were kids.  Photo credit to my youngest daughter, Brooklyn 🙂

24 Hour Read-a-thon, Hour 1

Every time I embark on the adventure that is the 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, I think that THIS will be the time that I somehow find a way to stay awake for a full day, happy reading and checking off book after book from my TBR pile.  It probably won’t ever happen – I AM getting older… – but the fun is in the trying, right?

So, by this time tomorrow, I’ll have read (hopefully) three books, eaten some yummy snacks, done some fun challenges, and participated in one of the most fun events ever.  I look forward to doing two ‘Thons a year and being part of a great community of girls and guys of all ages.

And which books will I be reading?

The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron

The Paradise Tree by Elena Maria Vidal

The Hatmaker’s Heart by Carla Stewart

Good luck to everyone participating in the read-a-thon today.  I hope you’ll stop by and say hello, maybe leave a comment!  If you do, leave a link to your own blog and I’ll visit and comment, too 🙂

OPENING MEME:

Opening Meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?  CANADA
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?  YOU’RE MAKING ME PICK??
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?  MINI DONUTS
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!  I’M JUST YOUR AVERAGE CANADIAN MOM WHO WORKS AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HER KIDS.  I LOVE BOOKS AND HOCKEY.  I DREAM OF PARIS.  OH, AND I’M MARRIED :p
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?  I PROBABLY WON’T DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT.  JUST ENJOY MYSELF AND TAKE IT ALL IN STRIDE!

high summer ratEveryone who knows me also knows I love a good read-a-thon!  My great blogger friend, Michelle,  is hosting the High Summer Read-a-Thon – a week long reading frenzy!  Okay, it’s not a frenzy, it’s actually really laid back and fun and a great way to pare down that TBR pile.

Check out her blog and sign up!  The more the merrier 🙂

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon, UPDATE #2

Well, I’ve fizzled out a bit.  I knew it was coming – I only got 5 hours of sleep last night and I haven’t been feeling well all day.  I’m still reading bits here and there and there’s a chance I’ll still finish my second book.  Such bad timing to feel under the weather!!

Where are my cheerleaders?  I NEED YOU!  lol

I’m on page 82 of 292 of my current book.  It’s good, so far.

I hope everyone else who is ‘thonning’ is doing well!
