Book Drunkard

“I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.” L.M. Montgomery

Armchair BEA – Day 4

The topic for today is about whether we’ve received anything free beyond free books – this can be in the form of money, offers to review on another blog or publication, invites to speak at events, etc.

The answer for me is ‘no’ – aside from occasional gifts I’ve received from authors for reviewing their books.  I love getting small letters of thanks.  It makes my whole day!  And, the nice gifts are so thoughtful.  They aren’t huge or elaborate – sometimes I receive bookmarks.  Once I received an old Roman coin after reviewing a book set in Rome.  Very cool.  This is a hobby for me, really.  As my blog names states, I am a complete book drunkard.  Getting a book for free is like winning the lottery some days 🙂

  2. Getting books in the mail IS awesome.

  3. Yes, it’s a hobby for me too =) LOVE the free books… but I get a little annoyed when I get an unsolicited book. That means you really have tooo many books for your own good! =)

  4. Nice, getting these little things from authors! I haven’t had anything like that, but I love getting books!

  5. I haven’t ever gotten a gift from an author, so I am a little jealous of your Roman coin 🙂 I am like you, though- I don’t really need to get a bunch of stuff off the blog for me to feel like the blog itself is successful. I am lucky in that I don’t need to use my blog for an income, either. I completely understand that there are people who do want to make a go of it as a full-time thing, but I just can’t imagine that would be fun for me. So I’m happy as I am with it!

  6. I used to spend a good portion of my wages on books…but now that I no longer work and became a reviewer I have more books then I know what to do with…I wonder what the mailman and UPS people think…lol

  7. I do love when I get a nice note from the author after posting a review.

  8. 🙂 Hand written notes are awesome!

  9. I love getting the attention from the publisher/author because most of them read your reviews! Great post

  10. Getting books in the mail, or a thank you note is great! Anything’s better than bills 🙂
