Before Versailles: A Novel of Louis XIV by Karleen Koen – Review

Before Versailles is the first book I’ve read by Karleen Koen and may I just say ‘Oh my God’!  I am absolutely in love with her and this fabulous book.

Ahhh, The Sun King.  Wow, what a man!  I found myself falling completely head over heels for him.  If he was anything in real life like he is in this book, I’d have been hooked!  I love how she wrote him as a real person with faults and feelings, sometimes unsure but still strong.  And Louise – I love how she was just herself.  She was so unaffected by everything and everyone at court.  She was a refreshing character.

Speaking of which,  there really is nothing like the French court.  Karleen Koen writes it excellently with enough intrigue, secrets and lust to satisfy the hungriest of readers.  The pace of the book was perfect to me.  It didn’t lag and didn’t rush.  I liked that it not only told the love story of Louis and Louise, but also included side stories to keep me totally engrossed.  She definitely has another fan in me and I can’t wait to read her previous books and future ones, too!

THIS BOOK WAS PROVIDED BY RANDOM HOUSE IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW.
