Book Drunkard

“I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.” L.M. Montgomery

I’m so excited for tomorrow.  At 5am, I will be starting my very first read-a-thon!  It’s scheduled for 24 hours, but since I’m a mom AND I have church tomorrow, I don’t plan on reading the entire time.  My intention is to spend some quality time with my books, get caught up on some reading and hopefully get some reviews out afterwards.  I’m also going to spend some of that time reading aloud to my girls.

So, I have snacks – Hummus and pita, brownies, apples and caramel dip, turkey pepperoni, white chocolate with hazelnuts, a spicy Cajun mix of peanuts, corn nuts, etc., some bottled water and of course, lots of coffee.

I have books – I’ll be starting off with a little bit of V.C. Andrews, The Day the Falls Stood Still by Cathy Buchanan, a book I was sent for review called Auf Wiedersehen by Christa Holder Ocker, Ramona and Beezus for the girls and if I’m still going, I have a second pile…just in case.  I’ll be blogging about my progress, so check back if you want to see how I’m doing!

I have a quiet space – We are in the midst of finishing our basement (finally) so I cleared a spot downstairs that is comfy and bright and airy.  Best of all, it’s away from the rest of the house so it’s peaceful.  Most of the time, the only traffic I’ll see or hear is the cat.

So, those are my plans.  I’m a read-a-thon virgin, so we’ll see how it goes.  As far as I’m concerned, even if I only finish one book, it’s a success!  If you want to check it out for yourself, check out the Dewey’s Read-a-Thon website!

  1. Yay! Your first read-a-thon…I’m so glad you’re joining us! This will be my second one and I’m hoping I will be a little more successful this time. I will be taking a break for a couple of hours to go to my friends of the library book sale and to pick up snacks, then back to reading. I’m starting at 7am. I have you on my list of blogs I follow who are participating so I will pop in and see how you’re doing. Happy reading!

  2. Good luck tomorrow! I am a cheerleader so will check in with you to see how its going!

  3. Sounds like you’re ready. Have fun!

  4. Ohh, I had brownies last time. I couldn’t stop eating them and didn’t feel so good after by 12th or so. So, no brownies for me this time.

Looks like you’re all set! Have a great time!

  5. I’m one of your cheerleaders and wanted to wish you good luck! I’ll be reading next time, but may sneak in a few hours of reading this time, for solidarity’s sake, ha ha.

Also, your snack list sounds awesome!
