Virginie Says…

Perfect Timing by  Jill Mansell

When you meet the man of your dreams on girls night out, it’s hardly…Perfect Timing

In this fresh and funny contemporary romance by bestselling author Jill9781402226748-mMansell, Poppy Dunbar’s whole life gets turned upside down after a chance encounter with a handsome stranger…

Never a troublemaker, Poppy had always been content with the way things were supposed to be done—which included marrying predictable Rob McBride. But that was before she met Tom Kennedy the night before her wedding. Could she really be falling in love with a stranger?

Unable to forget Tom, or go through with the wedding, Poppy runs off to London. Her new life and colorful friends are anything but predictable. Misunderstandings, family secrets, and jealous quarrels ensue, but can Poppy stop running long enough to figure out what—or, rather, who—is in her heart?

“A cherub with cheekbones.”  This is how Poppy Dunbar describes Tom – the man she meets the night before her wedding.  She ends up cancelling that wedding much to the chagrin of many people close to her.  On her own, Poppy ends up meeting a multitude of new people – Casper, Claudia, new boss, Jake, and more  –  when she moves from Bristol to London to live and work.  Of course, she has ulterior motives for choosing London.  One reason is to find Tom.  The other is to find her real father.

Of course, things never end up happening as planned.  Sometimes they end up better.

The characters in the book, all written brilliantly by Jill Mansell, are multi dimensional and all have their own stories to tell – those stories are interesting, heartwarming and unpredictable.   Jill’s writing style and ability to tell a funny, romantic story, which is also tearful and dramatic at times, kept me reading well into the night.  It really is Brit Chick Lit at its best.  This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I know it won’t be the last.

  1. Jill Mansell’s book are so very awesome. I read Millie’s Fling earlier this year and loved it. I must add this one to my wishlist.

  2. I think about the characters from Perfect Timing ALLLL the time! I fell in love with them 🙂

  3. Virginie! (What a gorgeous name, by the way! Shall be using it in a future book, I’m sure.)
Thank you so much for your fantastic review – I’m so happy you liked Perfect Timing. Caspar is one of my favourites, I have to admit. And the house is one I would love to live in, too.
    Once again, many thanks..

  5. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I just borrowed my friend’s copy, and I can’t wait to read it. Of the Mansell books I’ve read so far, I really liked Millie’s Fling and Miranda’s Big Mistake. You should check them out.

  6. I’ve read a few Mansell’s now, and I have to say that you are in for a treat if you read more.

  7. This sounds really good! Love the review and see I have another author to keep an eye out for!

  8. I just put this in my TBR list. It sounds really good – and just the fact that you mentioned that the characters were brilliantly written – well, that is enough for me!
