Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith is a book I completely scoffed at when I first heard about it’s upcoming release. I thought he was pretty nervy to mess with a book as great as Jane Austen’s masterpiece and vowed not to read it. Then the book came out and I kept hearing and reading all the great reviews. I couldn’t believe it! I knew I had to read it then, even if only to see what all the fuss was about. I’m glad I did.
I’m going to go as far as saying I liked PPZ as much, maybe even more than the ‘original’. The idea of the Bennet sisters lifting their skirts to kick some zombie butt had me laughing and reading until my eyes fell out of my head. I love how Seth Grahame-Smith took familiar lines and stories from the book and peppered them with ‘unmentionables’. The illustrations in the book were also terrific! I found the writing style easy to read and understand (which is sometimes hard when you read the great classics).
Big thanks to Quirk Books for sending me a copy for review!
