Madi’s Book Review

Madi Says…

The book I read is Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman.  The book Aquamarine is about two best friends , Hailey and Claire.  It’s very hot outside so the twoaquamarine-poster-0girls go and swim at the Capri Beach Club.  Hailey loves the water but Claire can’t stand it.  One day there was a big storm that made big waves that filled the pool with mucky water.  When the girls went to go swimming the next day they couldn’t but Hailey was curious about it so she dove in.  She was in the water for a long time and Claire was getting worried, but then POP she came out and said she saw something and that something was a mermaid!   They thought she was the prettiest thing ever!   She had a shiny, silvery tail and lovely blonde hair.  For days they thought on how to get her back into the ocean and every day the mermaid lost energy and lost scales on her tail.  Together the girls carried Aquamarine to the ocean and the more she was out of the water the more weak she was.   When they got there, there were big waves.   Claire didn’t want to go in the water and Hailey couldn’t lift her alone so Claire went in to help their new mermaid friend.  When they first got in she was very weak but the further they got in the more she got her strength back.  Then she had enough energy to swim away!

I liked this book very much because I think mermaids are very interesting (even though they’re not real) creatures and they are really, really pretty.

My favorite part of the book was when Claire got over her fear of water and helped her friend Hailey put  Aquamarine back into the water.     This book was very interesting and I think other kids my age should read it.

  1. Very good review Madi! I didn’t know there was a book about Aquamarine- but I had seen the movie while watching the neighbors kids. It was a cute movie but I bet the book was better!

  2. Great review Madi! I loved the movie and love Alice Hoffman so I really should read the book. Onto the wishlist it goes 🙂

  3. After the whole Twitter debacle, I still have no interest in reading Alice Hoffman.
