Book Drunkard

“I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.” L.M. Montgomery

Saw this article (from March) and thought it would make a good BTT confessional question:

Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?

Why lie?

I don’t think I’ve ever lied about reading a book.  MAYBE in school, but if I did, I can’t remember.  If I didn’t like the book I usually at least skimmed through it so I had the general idea.  Seriously though, I’ve always loved to read and can’t recall a book from school that I hated.  I read them all.  I’m sucha nerd…

What’s the point of lying about which books you’ve read?  If someone asks you a question about it, you won’t be able to answer and would look pretty silly!  There are so many books in the world and everyone has different tastes.  There certainly isn’t any shame in not having read them all.

  1. I’ve only done it once. I was 10. It was a boring book. Here is mine

  2. Welcome to BTT! I lied about reading Huckleberry Finn in school, but I found it didn’t take much to fake my way through any discussions. Here’s my post on the subject.

  3. I’m with you. After school, it’s sort of stupid to say you did when you didn’t. I have no problem saying I didn’t finish a book or refuse to read one.

  4. I imagine people who feel the need to read the “right” books to impress people, also wear the right clothes and drive the right cars and support the right causes. I’ve always been an independent thinker, as it seems most BTT bloggers are, too
